No Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia Play, says Sony

For quite some time now, Sony has been stating that all the device of the Xperia series would be getting an update to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, this year. In fact the updates were supposed to begin this month itself, but now it seems the first Playstation Certified smartphone from Sony, the Xperia Play, is not getting that update to the Ice Cream Sandwich. Real heartbreak for Play users, isn?t it?

Sony wrote on their mobile blog that after an extensive test with in-house developer teams, and with their partners the company has decided that the Ice Cream Sandwich cannot provide consistent and stable experience with this smartphone particularly with the gaming.

Sony said that it confirmed its decision when it received similar feedbacks from the developer community, the systems having been checked by numerous people including experienced independent developers, advanced users and game content providers who tested the systems after Sony made available the ICS beta ROM for unlocked Xperia Play smartphones.
